All things confidence, keeping your own promises, and healthy living with Rachel Dillon
You might recognize the lovely Rachel Dillon as 3X Miss World Beauty Fitness and Fashion, or
maybe you’ve seen her workout clothing brand, Crop Shop Boutique, come across your
Instagram feed. If neither sounds familiar to you, let me introduce you to my good friend
Rachel, who surprisingly has so much in common with me!
Rachel and I got together for a girl chat about all things business, fitness, fashion, healthy
living, and more for an inspiring and super motivating episode you won’t want to miss. As a
fellow female founder, entrepreneur, and fitness enthusiast, I wanted to chat with Rachel
about questions I’m often asked by you, like finding confidence, building healthy habits,
balancing relationships, and more, and I’m so excited to share some of our tips with you here.
Be sure to check out our entire episode, which is packed with so much knowledge, especially
for young women interested in business, fitness, fashion, and the perfect listen if you want to
hear a super real and authentic girl chat.
Okay, let’s get into it!
What tips would you give someone listening who wants to start living a healthier lifestyle?
As many of you know, I went on my fitness journey and lost over 90 pounds. It wasn’t easy,
and it definitely wasn’t something that just shifted overnight, so please be kind to yourself
when pursuing a healthier lifestyle. If this is something that you’ve been wanting to explore,
luckily, I have some great tips for you from Rachel.
Environment
“I think that it’s super important to look around at who you are hanging out with, who’s
influencing you, who you’re following. Those things are super important because we naturally
attract what we are,” Rachel tells us.
I say this all the time, but it’s so important to surround yourself with people with similar goals
and habits, especially when looking to make a change. Instead of going out for drinks, ask
your gals if they want to go for a morning walk, grab a coffee, or do a workout class instead of
having an unhealthy meal. Finding balance is important, but switching to a healthier lifestyle
becomes immensely more manageable if you have support around you.
Start Small
When you start a new routine, often it’s exciting and inspiring, so you want to take on a lot all
at once and create this massive 360 shift. It’s important, though, to not set unrealistic goals
for ourselves in order to develop long-term habits. Otherwise, you end up setting these
ridiculous expectations that no one can meet, and it becomes discouraging.
Instead, Rachel advises us to “Start super, super small, and once you prove to yourself that
you can stick to it, add something else to the list.” Eventually, those small changes become
big habits and, eventually, a completely new lifestyle.
Be Kind To Yourself
I made the mistake that I think many people do when they begin their health or fitness
journey, and it’s being too hard on yourself because you believe there is this “end destination”
to be reached. So if you make a mistake, or you don’t eat exactly what your meal plan says, or
you miss a workout, you kind of criticize yourself or beat yourself up about it.
This mindset is honestly so unhelpful and will not get you to your “destination” any faster
because once you really develop these lifestyle habits and make these healthy changes, you
realize there is no “end” at all.
Rachel’s advice to us is instead of attaching emotion to your goals, try to start looking at it as
you are doing something you want every day because it makes you feel good, healthy, and
happy. Once you perfect that mindset, the rest falls into place.
What’s the secret to building confidence?
I used to think that there was some magic answer to this, but Rachel and I agreed that the
truth is that most of your confidence comes from keeping yourself accountable and
constantly proving to yourself that you can do difficult things. Confidence is not something
you just wake up having. Like anything, it’s something you must work on and build over time.
Once you truly prove to yourself that you can overcome anything you put your mind and
effort into, you’ll build a sense of pride in yourself and have this undeniable stack of proof that
you are someone you can and should be confident in.
Rachel and I dive much deeper into these topics and unpack so many more on our episode
of POW together. She is such an icon and dear friend to me, so I hope you tune in and have
the opportunity to learn from her the way I learned so much during our chat!
