5 Tips For Balancing Your Hormones & Healing PCOS

From Certified Hormone Specialist Paige Lindgren

As many of you know, I’ve been on a hormone-healing journey all year, maybe even a little
longer. I feel like so many women in 2023 are having different hormonal issues — whether it’s
linked to the environment, what we’re eating, toxins, etc. I really have noticed such an upward
trend of women gaining awareness of their hormones and seeking information to help them
heal and balance their bodies.

That’s why I’ve been on a mission to gain as much insight as possible from certified
specialists like Paige Lindgren and bring it to you so we can all be on this journey toward
healthier hormones together. I recently had Paige Lindgren on the Pursuit of Wellness podcast
to chat with us about her journey with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and the steps she
took to balance her hormones. I’m sharing a few of them below, but for the whole story and
so much more helpful insight and information, be sure to check out our episode at the link
below!

Reducing stress in your day-to-day
Before you can even begin to change your stress hormones and rebalance them, you have to
figure out what’s stressing your body out in the first place. While this process will take a bit of
time and require you to really tune in to how your body is feeling, it’s an essential part of your
healing journey and finding balance.

Paige says that the first thing she did was take control of her stress. This might look different
to everyone, but for Paige, it was mostly about over-exercising, which was putting her body
through a lot of stress and putting a focus on her nutrition.

“I was putting my body through so much work and effort, so slowing down and then just
making simple changes in my nutrition was key,” Paige says.

Eating habits and protein intake
Speaking of nutrition, Paige shares the changes she made in her diet and how prioritizing
protein was a big game changer for her.

“For women with PCOS or hormone imbalance, getting your protein in is huge,” Paige tells us.
She also mentions that some of her favorite, easy ways to get added protein in are chicken
apple sausage for breakfast and Chomps beef sticks as a random snack (which I am
obsessed with, too).

Paige also loves a morning beef bone broth moment, which is so healing for your gut health
and beneficial for hormone balance as well. Besides that, Paige is known for her easy and
hormone-friendly recipes, which she shares on her social channels, so be sure to check those
out, too.

Perfect your wellness wind-down routine
Paige shared what her wellness wind-down looks like every night, and honestly, it looks pretty
similar to mine, so I was super excited about that.
A few nonnegotiables on her list include:

1. Prioritizing getting enough rest and getting to bed at a reasonable time every night
2. Red light therapy. This is great for reducing inflammation, acne, scarring, and cell
regeneration!
3. Digestion tea — usually ginger.
4. A short mediation. YouTube is great for finding these, or I like to use the mediation
features of my Oura ring app.
5. Magnesium! This is also a must for me before bed and just really helps me reduce
stress and fall asleep effortlessly.

Of course, everyone’s routine will look different and should include whatever helps you reduce
stress and prep you for a good night of rest. Ultimately, it’s about finding the routine you truly
love and sticking to it that will make the difference in the long run.

Switching to lower-impact exercises
“I’d gained 30 pounds in three months, and some doctors had told me, ‘You need to burn
more calories, make sure you’re exercising.’ So I was doing two high-intensity workouts a day
and just feeling exhausted, seeing no change.”

So switching to more low-impact workouts, like incline walking, hot yoga, and lower-weight
dumbbell training here and there, really helped Paige feel more energized and balanced and
get her cycle back on track. Switching to lower-impact workouts has really done wonders for
my cortisol levels. I’ve been implementing more long walks, pilates, and strength training and
have never felt better, so I really do love this tip.

Reducing alcohol consumption
This is a big one and is so beneficial for your body in so many ways, in addition to healing
your hormone health. Alcohol can have so many negative consequences on your body and
really throw your hormones out of whack, plus cause your digestive system and liver to go
through unnecessary stress when it’s trying to digest the alcohol.

Paige shares that she removed alcohol completely for about two years during her healing
journey and makes non-alcoholic drinks fun by just pouring them into a wine glass. I’m a big
mocktail in the wine glass gal myself, and I think this can be such a fun way to get that feel
and aesthetic while keeping your body balanced.

I hope you found these tips helpful and easy to incorporate into your lifestyle if you’re
choosing to improve your hormone health and find balance. Please remember that this is a
long-term journey and not just something you can easily find your way out of overnight..
Instead of feeling like balancing your body is a chore, look at hormone healing as an
investment in yourself and something you get to do. I promise that with patience and time, it
will become a long-term lifestyle when you see incredible results.
